Energy SecurityFossil fuels are not found where they are consumed. And today, the largest
energy-consuming nations, the United States chief among them, are seemingly
confronted with the unpleasant options of either importing fossil fuels
or exploiting last-resort resources. Both options are considerably risky–economically,
politically, and ecologically. Yet an alternative option exists, which is,
of course, alternative energy. Local and sustainable sources of energy,
such as solar, stabilize energy prices, reduce foreign conflict, and eliminate
the need to exploit unproductive, ecologically-fragile resources. Moreover,
the technological advances associated with alternative energy are transferable.
While new oil extraction methods primarily benefit those nations with large
oil reserves, new solar technologies benefit everyone under the sun. Secure
energy is democratized, decentralized, and decarbonized. |
